Ottawa, ON – After nine years of Justin Trudeau, Canadians have never felt less safe. Since Trudeau became Prime Minister in 2015, violent crime has increased by 50 percent, while hate crimes have increased by 250 percent. Our once-safe towns and cities have become rife with chaos, crime and disorder.
Now, Canadians discovered last week that the RCMP had halted an attempted ISIS terror attack in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). What is even more shocking is that one of the two accused men had entered Canada, and had been granted a Canadian citizenship by the Trudeau Government, even though he had been videoed dismembering a prisoner on behalf of ISIS in 2015.
Canadians should be able to feel safe in their communities. It is a shocking failure that Canadians were forced to share their communities with a man who has committed such heinous acts. It’s no wonder that Canadians no longer have faith in this Liberal Government’s ability to protect our country.
Common Sense Conservatives are immediately calling for emergency Committee Meetings to determine how this terrorist was able to both enter Canada and become a citizen. Conservatives have already sent a letter asking for the Public Safety Committee to be recalled so Canadians can discover how this egregious national security failure occurred under Justin Trudeau’s watch.
Throughout the summer, Conservatives have demanded that the Public Safety Committee should return to do its vital work, but the Liberal-NDP coalition refused, wishing to continue their summer vacations. The attempted terror attack in the Greater Toronto Area shows the importance of this Committee returning so parliamentarians can do their work to ensure Canada’s national security. Any more delays from the Liberal-NDP coalition are an unacceptable act of negligence.
Justin Trudeau has repeatedly claimed that his government has thorough screening at our borders, but this attempted terror attack shows that this was a complete lie. Common Sense Conservatives will continue to call for Committees to be recalled so we can secure our borders and stop terrorists from entering the country.
